Pestforce Bishops Stortford Pest Control

Welcome to Pestforce Bishops Stortford. I am Andrew Hoare and I am your specialist pest control technician in Bishops Stortford and surrounding areas.

Many people think that when they have a pest control problem that it means;

a. They can deal effectively with the problem themselves and

b. There must be some reason why this is happening, immediately linking it to poor hygiene and cleanliness

Neither is true! And here’s why;

Some shop bought or do-it-yourself remedies are not always successful, longer term. They can make the problem worse and most pests are not attracted to dirt, and neither is personal cleanliness a factor. Pests are attracted to warmth, food and a safe place to nest, to raise their young. Insects, rodents and animals live around us all time, and are important to our ecological balance. When various environmental factors shift – such as weather – this favours certain insects or other animals, their numbers can swell and they quickly become a pest, finding that our homes offer them the right conditions.

As an avid outdoor and shooting enthusiast, I am passionate about preserving nature and wildlife and so where possible, I use traditional and humane methods to eradicate and control pests. I have worked for many years with local farmers to control vermin such as foxes, rabbits, moles and pigeons. I have also been a gamekeeper for many years; this all means that you are getting a experienced pest control technician to deal with your pest problem.

Qualified

I am fully qualified to offer you a professional and effective service;

I hold the Level 2 certificate ‘Pest Control and Management’, awarded by the Royal Society of Public Health (RSPH). This qualification must be successfully completed within 12 months and cover the control and management of vertebrates and invertebrates, as well as the safe use, storage and transportation of chemicals.

Use of insecticides and pesticides

Where possible, I try to avoid the use of chemicals but when I do, as far as is possible they are safe for use around areas where children and pets frequent. I care about the environment, and all baits and other material are removed once the pest is gone. I am also aware of the need of sparse use of these chemicals in agricultural settings (and other settings) where accreditations such as organic standards set by the Soil Association need preserving.

I have also completed several specialist courses such as bird proofing, gassing techniques, additional rodent courses, insect identification, specialist wasp removal techniques as well as additional training on pesticides.

All work is guaranteed – if it doesn’t work, you don’t pay for the pest control service – and insured too, with Public Liability Insurance and Product Liability Insurance, each up to the value of £5 million.

Being a shooting enthusiast, I hold a ‘firearms and shotgun’ certificate.

I have dealt with all types and sizes of pests, in a variety of situations – look at some of the types of customers we work with:

Sporting venues and complexes can, on occasions suffer from extensive mole damage. I use traditional methods of trapping moles in areas such as bowling greens, other sporting venues, roundabouts, gardens etc. I am a specialist mole catcher for gardens, businesses and farms!

Industrial buildings and office blocks can also suffer from nuisance birds. Birds such as pigeons can cause extensive damage to buildings and there are various techniques that can be used to stop this happening. Netting, spiking and other equipment is fixed to the roof and surrounding sills etc, preventing birds from landing, roosting and nesting. All this is humane and the birds are not harmed in anyway. I have advanced training and techniques for bird proofing and bird control.

I work with letting agencies, estate agents and other accommodation providers, either on one-off pest control issues or through on-going contracts to treat properties for a variety of infestations. Insects come in all shapes and sizes, with two insects that I commonly come across are fleas and bedbugs.

i. Fleas are well known to be carried on animals, especially our pets who introduce them to our warm homes. Carpets and other soft furnishings provide the perfect habitat for them to thrive and multiply, using pets and us as hosts. Their bite can leave behind a itchy, red lump on both pets and humans. Treatment needs to be thorough and effective of both pets (if you have any) and any soft furnishings.

ii. Bedbugs are also insects that enjoy the warmth of our bodies at night and the plentiful supply of food (our blood!). Their bites tend to form a string of red lumps in a straight line and the disc shaped bedbugs are easy to spot as mature adults. Their eggs and young are slightly more difficult; being small and light in colour they can easily go undetected for a long time. Bedbugs do need effective chemical treatment and bedding needs washing, and drying, at a high temperature.

I work with all domestic customers too, taking care of pest control issues in the home and outside the home too. Squirrels can be an issue for homeowners. Squirrels, being rodents, are very good at gaining access to loft space through air vents, pipes etc. and chew everything in sight! This of course, can present a substantial repair bill as well as presenting a fire hazard, should they decide to chew through wires etc.

I have also worked with a variety of agricultural customers including local farmers, equestrian stables, livery yards, poultry units, animal sanctuaries etc. to help control a variety of pests. Rats and mice can be difficult to manage in and around such areas as there can be an abundant supply of food (in grain stores, cold storage etc.) and plenty of spaces to build a nest too. Again, these types of pest control issues can be one-off treatments or, possibly a better solution, is on-going contract work to keep numbers to a minimum.

Other customers have included caravan parks, stately homes and gardens, schools, churches, student accommodation, care homes, nursing homes, day nurseries, garden centres, pubs, hotels, take away outlets, shops, supermarkets, garden centres, building sites, office blocks... and the list could go on!

I can control and remove all pests and includes rabbits, foxes, ants, moles, birds, rats, mice, squirrels, wasps, bees, moths, flies, carpet beetle, woodworm and much more!

Testimonials

Within an hour tour of my kennels, Pestforce advised me how we could implement a safe programme of vermin control.  Housing other people's dogs had always made me nervous of using poisons but the equipment used by Pest-Force and the professionalism displayed in it's use has quickly allayed any fears.
We have been extremely impressed with the results and now regularly recommend his many  pest-control services to our customers.

Mole hills have blighted our lawn for ages - we thought we had tried everything.  A friend recommended we speak with Pest-Force.  After two visits we have our garden back.
For peace of mind we have signed a twelve month contract, so if a new mole moves in all we have to do is pick up the phone.
After further discussions we have since employed Pestforce on an annual contract to look after all pest control at our commercial premises.

Since signing an annual contract with PestForce the rats and mice around our farm seem to have become a thing of the past. We have had contracts with other companies previously which have been ineffective.
