Pest Control Methods
We use humane, yet effective pest control methods and practices which are safe for use in and around areas frequented by children and pets. Neither do we use methods that harm non-target animals.
Insect infestations for example, need high-grade chemical treatments to ensure that all the lived adult insects, along with any young and eggs are removed. One such problem can be bedbugs.
Many customers are embarrassed to call us in to deal with this issue, attempting to deal with the problem themselves by using chop bought treatments. Some of these treatments can be effective but bedbugs, along with many other insects are developing a resistance as a result of over-use of such insecticides.
Bedbugs are nothing to be embarrassed about; contrary to popular belief, bedbugs are NOT attracted to dirt. They enjoy the warmth of our bodies and beds, as well as the endless supply of food – in other words, our blood. Bedbugs bite us as we sleep and feed of our blood. The adult bedbug then lays many hundred of eggs on the crease of the mattress and crevices of the bed frame.
Adult bedbugs can easily be spotted as disc shaped insects on the mattress but the eggs and young are harder to spot as they are much smaller and lighter in colour. Effective treatment is the correct use of a strong insecticides and intense, thorough cleaning of the bed frame and mattress. Bedding also needs to be washed at 60° and tumble dried as a high temperature for a minimum of 30 minutes.
Bedbugs are not the only pest we deal with! We can eradicate and control a large number of pests including:
Bird control & proofing (pigeons etc.)
Rat removal & control
Mice removal & control
Wasp nest removal
Squirrels, rabbits and foxes
Flies, moths, beetles, spiders, ants...
... any pest you can think of!
For lesser known pests, we have access to laboratories to that they can be identified. In this way, we provide a far more effective service as we know exactly how we can treat your home or business, helping you to be pest-free.
PEST OF THE MONTH - SQUIRRELS:
Generally speaking, Red Squirrels are not a pest. The Grey Squirrel definitely is, so the following information concentrates on the Grey species....
Grey Squirrels will readily inhabit lofts, attics and roof spaces as well as outbuildings. Signs of their presence will be scratching noises and droppings. However, these can be mistaken for rat droppings which a qualified technician will be able to discern. Grey squirrels may pass fleas to domestic animals which can be treated using animal flea treatments – hence the need for squirrel control or squirrel catcher. They are not thought to carry human diseases but can administer a painful bite if they are frightened.
Although the Grey Squirrel is attractive, appealing and entertaining, it can be a serious pest in the garden and especially to a bird lover. It is very bold and soon learns to take food from bird tables, chew through peanut feeders (only ever use steel ones to minimise this) and take seeds from tube feeders. In addition and if it isn’t always able to get the food from the feeder, it will seriously damage it and often to the point that the feeder is no longer usable. Squirrels will also damage trees by chewing off bark (which can kill small or young trees).
Use of MK 4 Humane traps - this is the most Humane and effective way to control Squirrels.
