About Keith Fordyce – Your Local Pest Controller in Hastings

I was born in Canterbury and have lived in Kent all my life. The South East isn’t just where I work — it’s home.

I spent 27 years working at Woodlands Poultry Farm, a free-range egg producer, starting out delivering eggs and working up to farm management. That experience gave me a deep understanding of pest control in real-world environments, particularly in agricultural and rural settings.

I also worked in the construction industry, gaining valuable knowledge of drains, property structures and how buildings are put together. That practical insight helps me identify how pests are gaining access to properties across Hastings and the wider TN31–TN40 region.

What I enjoy most is solving problems properly. Every job is different. Every situation is a puzzle. I take pride in working out how pests are entering and putting lasting measures in place.

Outside of work, I enjoy clay pigeon shooting, walking my Cocker Spaniel Daisy, spending time with my family and daughter, and getting outdoors whenever I can.

When I’m helping someone in Hastings, I treat it as if I were assisting a neighbour.

Rodent Activity at Restaurant, Hastings - 16/04/2026

I was contacted by a restaurant owner in Hastings who reported that they had caught a mouse in the kitchen and asked if I could attend to carry out an inspection. On arrival, I carried out a full survey of the kitchen, rear yard, seating area, and storage areas. The rear yard was heavily cluttered with old furniture, packaging, and general rubbish, which made inspection difficult. However, I was able to identify several rat holes and evidence of rat damage along the bottom edge of the rear gate. During the inspection of the kitchen, I found mouse droppings in various locations and a significant build-up of food debris beneath some of the kitchen units. I also identified an oversized hole around a pipe passing through the wall, which would allow easy access for rodents from outside. After returning to the rear yard and moving some of the garden rubbish, I located a redundant pipe hole that also presented a clear entry point. The survey of the seating and storage areas revealed a small amount of mouse droppings. I carried out proofing work by blocking the gap around the pipe inside the kitchen using wire wool and installed wire mesh over the redundant pipe hole externally. I then positioned bait boxes throughout the kitchen and storage areas to control any remaining activity. I advised the owner that the rear yard needed to be cleared of rubbish and old furniture to remove harbourage areas and allow proper monitoring. I also stressed the importance of improving kitchen cleaning standards, particularly beneath units, as food debris would continue to attract rodents. A follow-up visit was arranged for one week later.  On the second visit, the owner had cleared the rear yard of rubbish, which significantly improved access and visibility. The kitchen floor, however, had not improved to the standard advised. I checked all bait stations and found no signs of activity. With the yard now clear, I was able to observe signs of rodent movement but no fresh droppings. I installed an external bait box with monitoring bait to confirm whether any rodent activity remained and arranged a third visit for seven days later. On the third visit, all bait stations, including the external monitoring box, were checked and showed no signs of activity. The kitchen floor was still not being maintained to the recommended standard, which I again highlighted to the owner. Despite this, it appeared that the proofing measures had successfully prevented further rodent access. The owner was very pleased with the outcome. I discussed the option of setting up a regular pest control contract to provide ongoing monitoring and ensure compliance should an Environmental Health Officer inspection take place. The owner expressed interest but advised they would make a decision once they had received an outstanding VAT return.

Rat Activity in Kitchen – Hastings – 06.04.2026

Pestforce Pest Control Hastings responded to an urgent call after a rat was seen in the kitchen. A full inspection identified entry points beneath kitchen units where gaps around pipework allowed access. Additional holes were found behind appliances. We installed MDF boarding, fitted stainless steel mesh, and sealed gaps with steel wool. A trap was also set as a precaution. The issue was resolved quickly and effectively, leaving the customer reassured and satisfied with the professional service.

Dead Rat Causing Odour – Hastings, East Sussex – 25.03.2026

Pestforce Pest Control Hastings investigated a strong odour within a property. Inspection beneath a suspended floor revealed a decomposing rat, which was safely removed. Further checks identified a damaged inspection chamber and active rat burrows contributing to the issue. We advised repairs to prevent future access and ongoing problems. The source of the smell was successfully resolved, leaving the customer relieved and confident in the outcome.

Rodent Activity in Loft – Bexhill-on-Sea – 11.03.2026

Pestforce Pest Control Hastings attended after rodent droppings were found in a loft during building work. Monitoring confirmed active mice entering through roof defects. A staged approach using bait, traps, and proofing identified multiple entry points. After treatment and repairs, activity ceased. The customer arranged further roof work for long-term protection and was very satisfied with the thorough and effective service.

Rats chewed a pipe Hastings, Sussex TN35 04.03.2026

A customer contacted me concerned that rats had returned beneath their static home. They had previously experienced a rat problem a few months earlier, which resulted in a chewed pipe and water leak. After noticing another leak, they feared the rats had caused further damage, so a visit was booked for the following day. Later the same day, the customer called back to explain that the leak appeared to be from a previous repair rather than rat damage. Although the call-out was no longer essential, I offered to stop by anyway (free of charge )as I had another job scheduled nearby. The customer appreciated the offer and agreed to the visit. On arrival, I carried out an inspection around the static home and identified signs of rodent activity underneath, including evidence of both rats and squirrels. I also pointed out a minor leak on the waste water pipework, which was causing damp areas on the foundation pad beneath the static home. I explained that the presence of water can act as an attractant for rodents, providing a reliable water source and increasing the likelihood of continued activity.  I advised the customer that repairing the leak would be an important step in reducing the risk of further rodent problems. In addition, I suggested several practical rodent-proofing measures that could be carried out to the underside of the static home to help prevent future access and potential damage.
