Rodents take over home in Ealing, W5, 6th May 2022

Pestforce Pest Control Ealing were called to a home in West London where the residents had seen mice. We arrived and conducted an initial inspection during which we discovered ample evidence to confirm the presence of mice in the living room and kitchen, we also noticed a few possible points of entry too. We discussed the options with our client and commenced our rodent treatment plan straight away. On the second visit we replenished the bait boxes and carried out some rodent proofing works withing the home as a preventative for the future. Our third visit proved success with no further rodent activity apparent.

Mice control for home in Ealing, W5 - January 2022

Pestforce Pest Control Ealing received a contact form in the afternoon the other day from a local homeowner in Ealing who had found mouse droppings in their detached home. We offered the customer some simple advice and scheduled them in for a pest survey of their property at their earliest convenience. We found clear evidence of mouse activity with recent mouse droppings found in the lounge area. To eradicate the infestation we put in place a specific three-part eradication programme integrating poison rodent baits and mouse traps. Fly infestation at bin store in Ealing, W5, December 2021

Pestforce Pest Control Ealing were called today by a site manager of a sheltered accomadation for elderly people reporting an horrific fly infestation. We asked for images of the flies to be sent to us and we quickly identified that they were fruit flies and lesser house flies.In consultation with the client we establised the likely source coming from the bin store. At this stage – we have provided free advice: recommending an environental clean of the bin stores to remove source of fly activity. This advice was particularly helpful for the client as they were limiting access to site due to COVID and vunerable people at the site. 

Bedbug inspection in Ealing, W5, July 2021

Pestforce Pest Control Ealing carried out a beg bug survey of a luxury home in Ealing. The occupants had started to see bite marks on their body and were keen to find out the source of the problem. Our inspection led us to find bed bugs at a nymphal stage throughout the property. We have since recommended a complete residual insecticide spray of the property across 2 treatments to erradciate the issue. the focus of our spray would be primarily on the carpeted areas acorss the bedrooms and living areas. We wait to hear on the clients response however they were very happy with our professionalism and speedy response. 

Squirrels in roof in Ealing, W5, June 2021

Pestforce Pest Control Ealing were called to a property in Ealing after the owners had started hearing scratching in the roof space. We attended the next day, to carry out a pest survey of the roof. On inspection we found evidence of squirrels and a large hole chewed in the corner of the roof extension. This was the obvious entry points for the squirrels to access the roof. We have started a trapping programme to erradicate the squirrels from the roof and once this is complete we will quote the client to proof any holes in the roof. So far our approach has been very effective and the owners have heard far less noise in their roof space. 

Nightmare pigeon problem in Ealing, W5, May 2021

Pestforce Pest Control Ealing were contacted by a local management agent who was struggling to let a top floor flat in Ealing due to a long standing pigeon issue. The flat's balcony was being used as some pigeon's toilet for the past few months which meant that a large amount of pigeon guano had amassed alongside some old nesting materials. We recommended an extensive biocide disinfectant clean of the area and following this the installation of a netting system to prevent the pigeons returning. The management agent were very happy with the quote and we set about our work the same day. The netting we use is very durable and not to harsh on the eye. All our recent pigeon netting is made of a no-flame material to prevent any fire hazards. Once we completed the work, we recieved some very positive feedback from the client and a personal thank you a week later after a letting was secured. 

Honey Bees in flat in Ealing, W5, April 2021

Pestforce Pest Control Ealing were called by a women having a pest issue with what she through was wasps in her flat in Ealing. Our experienced pest technician, Mark attended the same day and during our pest inspection of the property we found no evidence of wasps but in fact a few dead honey bees found. The client later showed us a video which we later confirmed as lots of honey bees flying around. Our technician explained that this was likley due to a Queen bee stopping and then flying away few hours later. In this situation there was no action to be carried out and the client was happy to pay a callout charge for our time and advice. 

Mice problem in property in Ealing, W5, April 2021

Pestforce Pest Control Ealing were called by a worried women in Ealing. She had been suffering with a mice problem the past week and had reported sightings of mice in her kitchen.During our pest inspection, we found clear evidence of mice activity under kitchen with rodent droppings, smeak marks visible entry points found. We recommended a standard rodent baiting plan with multiple bait points distributed and secured under kitchen units alongside tracking dust to confirm mouse entry points and movements. On our 2nd visit, the property occupants report sightings of mice upstairs in there bedrooms and in the kitchen there had been light bait consumption on bait cards behind the kickboards.We cleaned and replenished bait where required. After another visit we managed to get on top of the problem however were needed to carry out extensive rodent proofing measures using copper mesh, mousestop sealant and expanding foam to prevent the mice invading again. 

Ealing Rat Control, W5, April 2021 

Pestforce Pest Control Ealing were called to a home in Ealing. It started with an interesting video from a customer who had accidentally caught a rat in her kitchen on video whilst videoing her children baking. As with all rat jobs the drainage chamber was inspected and non toxic bait was dropped into the drain on a wire to confirm activity and baited rat traps were placed under the kitchen units.  A follow up appointment was scheduled for 7 days time, however the client contacted us after just 24 hours! Three rats had been caught in the snap traps. The drainage team attended the property and a rat flap (one way valve) was fitted into the drain. Traps were left in place for a further two weeks over which time four more rats were caught.  On removal of treatment we did not expect to return but sadly after a period of a few months further rat sightings began to occur.  Checking the rat flap was in place and working effectively, a new investigation began to explain why once again the client was plagued by rats.  The focus turned to the neighbouring property as it is not uncommon for rats to migrate from one property to another.  This was after learning from the client that her neighbour had suffered several water leaks in his property over recent months.  The neighbour agreed for us to inspect his drain however he was not aware of any rodent activity in his property.  Observing that the interceptor cap was missing together with some evidence of rat activity on the benching we baited the drain securing it to a wire.   On returning to check the baits we discovered they had all been taken. The neighbour agreed to work being undertaken in the drain by the drainage team. Following interventions being fitted into the his drain the client continued to catch rats in traps under her kitchen units. This is common after interventions are fitted into drainage as rats will seek a new exit point.  It has now been several months since the last rat was caught and the client is finally satisfied that she no longer shares her home with rats.

Ealing Squirrel Control, Squirrels in my loft in Ealing, March 2021

Pestforce Pest Control Ealing were called to a property after the residents were hearing scratching noises in their loft space of their property in East Ealing. During our same day pest survey, we were able to confirm a squirrel problem however unfortunately there was no access to the roof space from inside or outside.  On further investigation and installing a surveilance camera we established the female adult squirrel had a recent litter of baby squirrels (kits). The kits for at least 7 or more weeks are totally reliant on the parents returning to the nest (drey).  For this reason we have postponed humanely removing the squirrels due to the risk of removing the adults in traps but unfortunately leaving behind the vulnerable juvenile squirrels in the nest without the returning parent. We've now been called back by the client who have advised the young squirrels have now left the nest and we have carried out a humane trapping program to remove the adult squirrels.  Current squirrel problem is now resolved and a competend roofer has been in and engaged to squirrel proof the roof on the property to prevent any further squirrel issues.

Drain Fly Control as a result of by rat problem in Ealing Broadway, May 2020

We were called out this week by a tenant in a ground floor flat in Ealing Broadway.  The pest issue was a high number of Drainage Flies otherwise known as Sewer Gnats, Filter Flies or Sink Flies (Psychodidae).  These flies are commonly caused by a water leak or puddles of standing water containing grease, general waste debris and rotting organic materials.  Often we find the source to be a leaking pipe or water escaping around bathroom white goods such as a leak at the side of a shower.  On this occasion the source was not immediately obvious.  

Following some extensive investigations using CCTV, we exposed the boxing in behind the toilet and found a horrendous amount of dirty water and human waste.  Please see the video.  We traced this back to the toilet where a flexi-pipe had been fitted.  The flexi-pipe had a large hole where it had been chewed by rats. The Brown Sewer Rat (Rattus norvegicus) as most us accept exists in large numbers in the sewers.  If rats have an opportunity they will make their way into our domestic waste drainage system.  Usually they have nowhere to go as all pipework should either be connected to something or capped off if redundant.  However, if the rats find an open redundant or defective pipe run or on this occasion a flexi-pipe they can exploit this opportunity to enter a property structure. Rats had come up the pipework to back of the toilet where the flexi-pipe had been fitted before gnawing a large hole.  See area highlighted in red in the image.  Not only could the rats then get out of the pipe into the fabric of the building, they also caused a large leak of sewage.  This in turn caused the drain fly infestation.

To resolve both issues we removed the toilet and boxing in.  A full environmental clean was completed to remove the waste and clean the area thoroughly with appropriate biocides.  The main drainage chamber serving the building was then accessed to establish where the rats had come from.  A non-return valve (Ratflap) was then installed to prevent rat ingress from the main trunk sewer.  Essentially this is a one way door that allows waste to exit, but restricts rats from coming up the pipework.  The drain flies were also treated to eradicate the larvae and eggs.  This stopped the continuation of the insects life cycle.  Both issues are now resolved.  The gnawed flexi-pipe was replaced with solid plastic pipe.  The boxing in had to be left open to allow the area to dry out completely before a carpenter attends to enclose the area with new materials.  A very relieved tenant, who thought they simply had a few flies.

Coming up the drains, Rats in Ealing, W5, March 2020

Pestforce Pest Control Ealing have been attending a small block of flats in Ealing Broadway over the last 3 weeks following complaints from residents of rats outside in the communal bin stores and in the car park.  Residents have also had rats accessing the engine compartments of their vehicles and in turn had damage to fuel lines and electrics.  We attended and surveyed the site and identified the source of the rat problem to be from an open drainage chamber in an adjacent alleyway.  Rats had been migrating out from the sewer via a broken manhole cover.  We have carried out 4 treatment visits to site to eradicate the existing population of rats that had become well established residents in the area.  At the same time we educated all the residents to ensure all food sources are removed, particularly from the poor waste management in the bin stores.  We have now replaced the manhole cover that was defective with a new stainless steel cover, we had bespoke made due to the non-standard size.  The rat issue is now resolved with not a single rat sighting or any evidence of rat activity present for 7 days.  All treatment has been removed as the source of the issue has been rectified and hopefully residents will continue to not provide food sources.  A big rat problem, that has been resolved by simply fixing what was really a minor issue.  A great outcome for the client.

Rats love a uniform, Ealing, W5, October 2019

Pestforce Pest Control Ealing were called last week to a school uniform shop in Ealing Broadway.  The shop had started to find damaged stock and couldn’t understand why, but saw what looked like rat droppings.  We attended within a few hours of receiving the call and confirmed rats were the culprits.  We surveyed the shop and the back of house areas and quickly established the source of the problem.  Rats had been entering via a redundant pipe gully that had been sealed into a partition wall. We didn’t want to use rodenticides due to the risk of deceased rodents in areas and could lead to a negative business image for the client.  The best approach was to carry out a controlled trapping programme over 7 days to remove the offending rodents.  We returned to site and accessed the disused pipe run through wall by installing an inspection hatch.  The pipe could then be sealed using fast setting concrete.  Job complete and problem resolved.  No more rats and an extremely happy client!
