Silverfish Pest Control

Silverfish are a wingless, cigar-shaped, silver-grey  insect about 12mm in length. They have 3 long bristles on their tail end and are commonly found in damp areas of the house like  bathrooms and kitchens. Silverfish are most active after dark.

Silverfish ineffective at climbing smooth surfaces and so are often trapped in baths, shower trays and handbasins. They feed on residues of starchy substances such as starchy foods, wallpaper paste and glues.

Silverfish eggs are laid in nooks and crannies.

A closely related species, the Firebrat which is flatter and speckled. The firebrat favours hot and dry conditions, but is destroyed using the same methods as its cousin.

Dampness is the main cause of Silverfish infestations.
